In the multimedia performance WAANDACHT we see the portrait of eight women of flesh, blood and images. By using live-video and digital video mapping in the theatre, we reflect on the world that is constructed in the media images that they are confronted with every day. The question is: Do we define our own self-image, or are we defined by the images that surround us? If we look into the screen, what do we see? A world of images that we would like to get lost in, or a world from which we appear?
In this performance I worked together with theatre designer Tamar Doedens and a creative team consisting out of 21 women in the age of 23 to 38. The performance has been devised using material from interviews with the ensemble, improvisations, as well as fragments from ( Disney ) movies and advertising.
